Kwanch'oksa Temple
This temple is located at the base of Mt. Panya. In the tenth
century, it was established by the monk Hyemyong. It is renowned
for the Unjinmiruk, one of the largest images of Buddha in
the Orient and the largest Stone Buddha in Korea (Treasure
No. 218).
This figure is over 50 feet high and about 30 feet around
at the waist. There are also other cultural assets around
the temple Stone Lantern(Treasure No. 232), Worship Stone.
Muryangsa Temple
Located on Mt. Mansu, Muryangsa Temple is believed to have
been built during the Unified Shilla Dynasty. But, the direction,
location and the shape of the roof of the temple allow us
to presume that it was built in the Koryo Dynasty. It is one
of the best preserved temples in the Puyo. The temple is surrounded
by forests and is well known to be the best place for monks
to meditate and perceive doctrine.
Kungnakchon hall(Treasure No. 356) of Muryangsa temple is
famous for its unique architectural style as a two story building.
The five story stone pagoda and the stone lantern of Muryangsa
temple are outstanding examples of both the Shilla(57 B.C.-A.D.
935) and the early Koryo(918-1392) art techniques.
