Natural Reserve
Kungmangbong
Kungmangbong
is the third highest mountain in Gyeonggi Province. It is
well known to those who enjoy mountain climbing. Going to
the valley on the right from the lower part of the reservoir,
the entrance point of this mountain climbing path, the frangrance
of ginger trees is in the air.
Not only does a path continue where fallen leaves are scattered
by stirred up winds, but also a mountain stream continues
to flow whose bottom can cleary be seen. This is what makes
it the best place to start mountain climbing.
Soyosan
Soyosan
is noted for its beautiful scenery. Though rather small with
its highest point being 587m, this mountain is not left behind
other big Korean mountains in scenic beauty.
It has charming rocky canyons and picturesque waterfalls
including Wonhyo waterall, Ch'ongnyang waterfall and Sonnyot'ang,
a rocky pond below a fall.
In autumn the whole mountain is aflame with crimson and golden
leaves, attracting many visitors from Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.
Around the trailheads, there are several restaurants, yogwans
(Korean-style inn) and camping sites etc.
Yumyongsan
Located
in Sorak-myon, Gyeonggi -do, Yumyongsan (height 864m) is 6km
from Yongmunsan. Found by the Emperor Alpine Society in 1973,
this littleknown mountain was named after a female society
member, Jin Yu-myong, an avid hiker. This mountain was originally
a playground for horses, thus called Mayusan.
The deep and beautiful Ibkuji valley between Yumyongsan
and Obisan is the pride of Yumyongsan.
