Pomosa
Pomosa
is located on the eastern slope of Mt.Kumjong, which is located
in the north part of Pusan. Pomosa means "The temple of the
Heavenly Fish" and Mt. Kumjong means "the Mountain of the
Golden Well."
The legend tells that there was a well on top of a mountain
and a school of fish came from the heaven and played in the
golden well. So the mountain was named Kumjong mountain. As
one of the largest temples in Korea, it was much larger than
it is today. There are halls dedicated to the major Mahayana
Buddahs including Maitreya (Miruk), Avalokitesvara(Kwanum),
Vairocana(Pirojana) etc.
