Park
Hallyo National Marine park
The
park consists of three parts and each has unique backdrop.
Considered one of the most attractive tourist destinations
in Asia. You will be struck by its beauty while cruising the
islands on a boat.
Chirisan
Chirisan, the first and largest national park in South Korea,
has the highest peak after Paekdusan Mountain and Hallasan
Mountain. The park has various kinds of wildlife and precious
cultural heritage sites including famous temples. Twelve small
mountains with peaks above 150m such as Chonwangbong, Chaesukbong
and Nogodan compose the mountain chain.
Seven fabulous valleys like Pamsagol, Chilsun, Hanshin and
Simwon along with fourteen bizarre rock formations like Pipokdong,
Munjangdae and Tongjongmun are the characteristic features
of this area. Spectacular sights also include ten falls like
Kuryongpokpo, Sunyupokpo and Chongryupokpo. On the east, the
clear Sumjingang, with its white sands is simply beautiful.
Kayasan National Park
Kayasan
is famous for its scenic spots like the 1,430m high Sangwangbong
and the four km long valley, Hongnyudong, which stretches
out from the mountain to Haeinsa. It is best to visit Hongnyudong
Valley in the spring or autumn, the best attractions being
the spring flowers and autumn leaves.Kayasan National Park
has more to offer, including Murengkyo, Hongp'hilam, Eump'hungrhye,
Ch'uijukhwa, Kongjaeam, Yongmun waterfall, Kwangp'hangrhye,
Jaewoldam, Nakhwadam and Ch'omsoktae.
1. Haeinsa Temple
This temple is one of the most valuable buildings of Korea
Buddhism. This temple houses 15 national treasures and about
200 religious treasures including the Palmantaechangkyong
(Tripitaka Koreana, National treasure No. 32) and the Changkyunggak(National
treasure No. 52). It is composed of 75 branch temples including
Chungryangsa, Paekryunam and Wondangam, and 15 hermitages,
or small cells for monks.
2. Palmantaechangkyong (Tripitaka Koreana)
Designated as National treasure No.52, it consists of 81,258
hand-carved wooden printing blocks containing the Buddhist
scriptures. 121blocks are copies of other blocks and 18 missing
blocks were recreated in 1915.
Yonhwasan
Mt.
Yonhwa was named so as its shape resembled a lotus flower.
In Mt. Yonhwa, there is the Malsa of Hadong Ssangkye temple
built by great Monk Uisang in the 16th reign of King Munmu
of Shilla.
There are also the Yimjamyungbanja(Treasure No. 495), Okchun
temple's great bell, Okchun incense burner and stupa of Monk
Chungdam.
Hogusan
Hogusan was designated as Namhae District Park. Hogusan rises
650m above sea level and looks like a tiger lying on its stomach.
The clear water in the valley is cold enough to chill visitors
even in summer.
Inside the mountain is Yongmunsa, which is the oldest and
the largest temple in Namhae. Yongmunsa is said to be the
successor of Pogwangsa, which was constructed in Kumsan by
the Saint Wonhyo of the Shilla Dynasty. Under the rule of
Sukchong of the Chosun Dynasty, Yongmunsa was designated as
the guardian temple of the country and received royal patronage.
Hogusa has several valuable cultural remains.
Hwangmaesan
The
summit of Hwangmaesan mountain offers a captivating view of
the wide Hwang mae field and its wild azaleas.
It is a popular attraction among many tourists and hikers.
Nearby Hwangmaesan there are also many famous tourist attractions
dating back to the Shilla kingdom.
