Railway services
The Korean National Railroad operates super-express, express
and local trains along an extensive network covering almost
every corner of the country. Super express trains link Seoul
with Busan, Mokpo, Gyeongju, Gwangju and Yeosu. Most popular
destinations in the nation can be reached with mostly single-change
connections. The super-express and express trains include
dining cars connected to overnight trains. Local trains make
frequent stops.
Tourists are advised to purchase their tickets at least two
weeks in advance if they are planning to travel during the
holiday season or weekends. Tickets can be bought through
travel agents or at railway stations.
Subway
The subway is the most convenient and efficient way for visitors
to get around Seoul, Busan, and Daegu. Station names, ticket
counters, and transfer signs are all clearly marked in both
English and Korean. The different lines are color coded and
all trains have multi-lingual announcements.
The subways themselves are clean, efficient, and air-conditioned.
Stations have automatic ticket dispensers and convenient bus
connections.
In Seoul, it links Seoul with its outlying areas and satellite
cities. On the intercity network, trains operate at intervals
of 2.5 to 3 minutes during the morning and evening rush hours,
and intervals of 4 to 6 minutes during non-peak times.
Tickets are classified into regular and fixed-amount tickets.
The fare for one zone is 600 Won, and for two zones, 750 Won.
If a ride is extended to the National Railroad zone beyond
the boundary of Seoul, 66 Won (per 5 km) is added to the Seoul
subway zone fare
