By Sea
International Lines
International sea routes offer an alternative way to enter
Korea, namely via Japan and China. Visitors enter the country
via Busan, the main gateway and the largest port in Korea.
Regular services between Japan and Korea are provided by
Pukwan Ferry, Korea Ferry and Korea Marine Express Companies,
linking Busan and Jeju island with the Japanese ports of Shimonoseki,
Kobe and Hokada. Weidong and Tianjin Ferry runs services between
China and Korea. Temporary entry for private cars is allowed
for passengers arriving by ferry, providing that drivers obtain
the proper documentation.
Ferry Services
This offers one of the most pleasant ways to see Korea. Routes
are available between Busan and Jeju Island, Mokpo and Hongdo
Island, and Pohang and Ulleungdo Island. A hydrofoil runs
between Busan and Yeosu on the south coast, calling at several
small ports along the way.
